Feeling Mentally Exhausted in the Heat — How Do You Cope?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to open a conversation because this heat has been hitting harder than I expected. When you already live with anxiety, low mood, burnout, or any kind of mental health vulnerability, extreme temperatures can make everything feel heavier — literally and emotionally.

For me, the heat brings a mix of irritability, fatigue, and that strange “foggy” feeling where even simple tasks feel overwhelming. I know I’m not the only one, so I thought it might help to share what’s going on and hear how others are navigating it.

Here are a few things I’ve been trying:

- Cooling routines — short lukewarm showers, cold compresses on the wrists, staying near a fan, keeping curtains closed during the day.

- Gentle pacing — accepting that my energy is lower and planning fewer tasks.

- Hydration reminders — because dehydration makes anxiety and fatigue worse.

- Quiet indoor activities — journaling, drawing, slow stretching, anything that doesn’t add more stress.

- Checking in with my body — noticing when the heat is amplifying emotions so I don’t blame myself for feeling “off.”

But honestly, some days it still feels like too much. Heat can intensify symptoms: irritability, panic, sensory overload, insomnia, even emotional numbness. It’s not “just the weather” — it’s a real strain on the nervous system.

So I’m curious:

How do you take care of your mental health when it’s unbearably hot or in general?

What helps you stay grounded, calm, or simply functional?

If you’re struggling, you’re not weak — your body and mind are under extra pressure. You deserve gentleness, rest, and support.

Sending solidarity to anyone who feels like they’re melting inside and out.
