Celebrating Craftsmanship: The Prix des Artisanes 2024

The world of artisanal craftsmanship is a testament to the enduring legacy of skill, dedication, and creativity. It’s where the human touch transforms raw materials into objects of beauty and function. Recognizing the immense talent in this field, the magazines ELLE, ELLE Décoration, and ELLE à table have proudly announced the fourth edition of the Prix des Artisanes, supported by the LVMH group.

This year, the award is placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Culture, marking a significant endorsement of women’s craftsmanship. The Prix des Artisanes aims to shine a spotlight on the artisans who make French savoir-faire radiate across the globe. From floral jewelry designers to glassblowers, winemakers, goldsmiths, and gemologists, the diversity of skills among these artisans is astounding.

The award will honor five laureates from various domains: fashion, design and table arts, vine and wine, preservation of French heritage, and jewelry and watchmaking. The winners will not only receive professional support but also mentorship from partners Artisans d’Avenir and the National Institute of Crafts.

To be eligible, candidates must lead their own business for at least three years and demonstrate a commitment to passing on their skills, perhaps by employing an apprentice, participating in associations, or teaching. The call for applications is open until June 21, 2024, with finalists being selected for each of the five categories. An exceptional jury will meet the finalists in September, and the awards will be presented during a special evening in Paris.

For more detailed information and to submit your application, you can visit the official website of Le Monde Des Artisans or the ELLE magazine page: prixdesartisanes.elle.fr

Here are some inspiring success stories from previous winners of the Prix des Artisanes:

Cécile Gray (Fashion) - After starting her career as an architect, Cécile Gray transitioned to the textile sector. She developed a unique technique of metal weaving by crimping during her Master’s degree in Fashion Design.

Rebecca Fezard (Design & Fine Tableware) - Rebecca creates materials from production scraps and waste, using 100% biodegradable and natural glues. She co-founded her studio, where they transform “waste resources” into innovative design objects.

Fanny Boucher (Preservation of the French Heritage) - A Master of Art in rotogravure, Fanny Boucher specializes in a 19th-century technique for photographic prints. She founded her workshop to perpetuate this formerly extinct method.

Hélène Ponty (Winemaking) - Hélène Ponty took over her family’s vineyard after a career in a strategy firm and rediscovering the wine industry in China. Her estate now has a team composed of 75% women.

These artisans have not only excelled in their respective fields but also contributed to the preservation and innovation of French craftsmanship.

Their achievements were celebrated during the SHOW ME, the LVMH Métiers d’Excellence Ceremony.

The Prix des Artisanes continues to support and elevate the work of talented female artisans, ensuring that their skills and contributions are recognized and valued.

As we look forward to the announcement of this year’s winners, let’s take a moment to appreciate the hands that craft the beauty around us. The Prix des Artisanes is not just an award; it’s a movement that acknowledges the vibrant future of craftsmanship and the women who lead the way.
